Airplane Noise : Les Pollués de Montréal-Trudeau question the candidates
Montréal, June 29, 2017. A few months from the municipal election, Les Pollués de Montréal-Trudeau (LPDMT) have a few questions to ask to all the candidates running in the municipal election next November.
Three questions are asked to the candidates
- Do they support the implementation of a strict curfew from 11:00pm to 7:00am at the Montréal-Trudeau airport, to ensure that thousands of Montrealers have normal and restful nights of sleep?
- Are they committed to install, by the end of 2018, a network of noise measurement stations meant to measure the level of noise generated from aircraft and other mobile sources, modelled on the framework of the network of the air quality stations, existing since the 70s?
- What is their strategic vision concerning the proposed sale of the Canadian international airports, which includes Montréal-Trudeau Airport?
Indeed, a complete privatization of the airports by the government of Justin Trudeau, is under consideration in Ottawa.
For thousands of Montrealers, the current management called “dévolution” is known for being detrimental to the quality of life. An updated nuisance management, neighbourliness, transparency and accountability would be more than necessary in 2017, to guarantee a healthier environment for Montréal and nearby cities.
Our association invites citizens to raise the same questions to the candidates running in the municipal election in public events, block parties and on local tours.
Les Pollués de Montréal-Trudeau, although favourable to air transportation, are a coalition of citizens who are exhausted by the noise of airplanes flying at low altitudes and are frankly worried about the quality or air. This Citizens’ Committee is registered as a non-profit organization.
