Nearly 80 people attended the public meeting where, exceptionally, representatives of Aeroports de Montreal (ADM) put in an appearance, Tuesday June 2, in the Council Chamber of the Ahuntsic-Cartierville. The large number of residents who attended – despite the short notice and minimal publicity given to the event, and the odd time it was scheduled – 6.00 p.m. – showed ADM that the people of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, although located a long way from the airport, suffer terribly from the aircraft noise it generates, and want solutions to the problem.

Unfortunately, the representatives of ADM confined themselves to technical explanations of noise contours and other methods of establishing daily noise averages, systematically refusing to even attempt to consider changes to landing and take-off procedures that members of the public suggested, all the while defending a policy of unrestricted exemptions of nighttime aircraft movements resulting in thousands of overflights annually between 11.00 pm and 7.00 am in the morning.

Most of those present showed their deep disappointment at the outcome of the meeting. Let us remember that it was the elected officials of the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville that forced ADM’s hand to hold this face to face meeting.
