On June 20 at the City Council meeting, Projet Montréal will present a motion that the City should set up an Noise Observatory. This body would have a mandate to “better evaluate urban noise and propose policies adapted to this reality.”
The motion will be presented by Sylvain Ouellet, adviser to François-Perreault, and supported by Émilie Thuillier, councilor for Ahuntsic, who each represent municipal districts whose residents are greatly affected by the noise generated by the passage of aircraft over Montreal.
Les Pollués de Montréal-Trudeau call for all municipal parties to share this vision – and therefore work together in a non-partisan manner – and equip the city with an organization like this that could undertake the sound mapping of the island. Already in 2013, in its submission to the Office de consultation publique de Montreal for the adoption of the Montreal Development Plan, the citizens’ committee had called for the sound mapping of Montreal, core work that the Observatory would complete before proposing solutions.

I think Mr. Coderre couldn’t care less about noise pollution in Montreal. He is too busy organizing the 375th anniversary of Montreal next year and wasting tax payers’ money by lighting up Jacques Cartier bridge. What bothers me is that most Councillors of his party don’t care about noise pollution. It’s time we all voted Project Montreal.
