September 17th, 2020. Last August 6th, Les Pollués de Montréal-Trudeau (LPMT) learned that the Quebec Superior Court had rejected their request to prevent airplane landings and take-offs at Montreal Trudeau Airport between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Beginning in 2012, LPMT have been leading a campaign to allow Montreal citizens to have a peaceful sleep, without the noise from airplanes flying overhead. The citizens committee have until September 30th to appeal the decision. The fees associated with an appeal are 50,000$, and the committee is asking the public to consider helping.
The pandemic and lower number of flights have temporarily allowed Montrealers to improve their quality of life and have a better night’s sleep. But no one can seriously think that a harmful virus is the way to regain that quality of life.
An Appeal for a Financial Contribution to Cover Court Costs
Pierre Lachapelle, president of LPMT, stated: “We are appealling to our fellow citizens, and all people who notice the air and noise pollution, who understand the negative impacts of the airplanes on the quality of life of Montrealers. The financial support is essential to offset the financial dammages requested by the airport, and to appeal the court decision. Access to justice is not free. Our objective is to raise $50,000.”
About Les Pollués de Montréal-Trudeau
In 2013, the citizens’ group LPMT was incorporated as a non-profit group. Aside from claiming financial compensation for excessive noise, the group asks that a modern management approach be taken in relation to the environmental impacts of the Montreal-Trudeau Airport, and the application of a comprehensive ban of night-time departures and landings between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. For more information: www.lpdmt.org
